Supreme Court has revised minimum wages for daily wagers & contractual workers

The Supreme Court has approved the Delhi government’s plan for revised minimum wages for daily wagers and contractual workers. Also, the government will increase the dearness allowance(DA) for the workers as it was pending from couple of years.

The proposed rates of minimum wages were uploaded on the website of Labour Department on 12.11.2018 and published in various newspapers in English, Hindi, Punjabi and Urdu on 13.11.2018 and 14.11.2018, seeking suggestions/views/inputs from public including workers, trade Unions, Employers associations, market associations, various chambers of Commerce, NGOs and members of Civic society within a period of 2 months starting from 12.11.2018 up to 11.01.2019; 

On 18th Oct 2019, the Supreme Court had allowed the Delhi government to notify the revised minimum wages for workers in the city. 

In 2017, workers in Delhi are entitled to get a minimum monthly wage of ₹13,350 (unskilled), ₹14,698 (semi-skilled) and ₹16,182 (skilled). Once the notification will be issued, the revised monthly wage would be ₹14,842 (unskilled), ₹16,341 (semi-skilled, for clerical and supervisory staff) and ₹17,991 (skilled) if notified.

As per Gopal Rai, Delhi’s labour minister, the revised minimum wages is likely to be announced by Diwali.
