TCS wins the Top Women Award for Corporate Citizenship in South Africa

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), a global IT services, consulting and business solutions organization, announced it has won the Top Women Award for Corporate Citizenship, recognizing its role in advancing women to the forefront of the South African economy.

Hosted by Standard Bank, the award celebrates top women leaders and the companies behind them. These annual awards honor and applaud outstanding leadership, inspiration, vision and innovation, and organizations that play a role in promoting women to leadership roles. This year, the awards saw over 800 participants, 20 judges, and 24 award categories. The jury consisted of mainly women leaders from different walks of life including activists, directors, founders of women empowered companies, and thought leaders.

Fueled by inclusive hiring and heavy investments in mentoring and coaching women at all levels, women currently account for 36.4 percent of TCS’ workforce, making the company one of the largest employers of women in the world, the company said in a statement.

The company has a well-defined and progressive Diversity and Inclusion Policy with a focus on gender diversity, persons with disability and neuro diversity, sexual orientation, diversity of the mind, and generational diversity, TCS said.

The company has multiple initiatives for helping women employees realize their potential, while striking a good work-life balance. These include: discussion circles to help women through major life stages, reorientation programs to reconnect employees after long leave, interactions with inspirational women leaders, special leadership development programs to address the needs and aspirations of women, learning modules to equip mid-level managers to work with diverse teams, virtual support groups and parenting workshops. These targeted initiatives have helped TCS make tremendous progress in fostering gender diversity.

Globally, TCS leads several women-focused community development programs in the areas of education, STEM, health, and entrepreneurship. The GoIT Girls program is a week-long work experience program aimed at young girls, where they meet senior executives from TCS and client organizations, who provide insight into the various STEM roles that exist across the business spectrum, with the hope of inspiring a new generation of innovators, problem solvers and technology professionals.

Commenting on the recognition, Sumanta Roy, Head, TCS Middle East, Africa, and Mediterranean, said: “We are proud to be an employer of choice for a diverse workforce in South Africa and globally. Our diversity and inclusion policies and practices have resulted in a vibrant workplace culture that attracts the best talent and empowers individuals to stretch themselves and realize their potential, while setting benchmarks in customer satisfaction.”
