Can Good.co recommend a best fit employer for you .. ?

Understanding your personality and your work style can support you in deciding your best fit employer. This  is one of the thoughts being promoted by Good.Co, a start-up who have developed an online platform that allows people to identify their best fit employer.  This is accomplished through the personality assessment of the end user (job seeker) and matching the same to the cultural profile of an employer.

All of us have our own way of working , our own work style and work behavior that derives from our personality. On their web site Good.co says – “In just 10 minutes or less, you can discover your work style—what makes you happy, what’s important to you, what motivates you, and what helps you succeed.”.  Their site lists these three steps to learn about yourself and find your best fit job.  The core to the entire process is their PPA (Proprietary Psychometric Algorithm).

For the first step – they have a set of questions (psychometric tool) that helps you learn about yourself, and identify your strengths.

The questions don’t have a rating scale, but have a sliding scale which you can drag either ways.

Once you are done with your personality profile, you can complete your career profile  – work history, employer details etc. You can also invite your team members to participate and generate a team dynamics report etc.  Subsequently you can generate your FitScore with the several companies from their employer data base. The FitScore conveys your personality profiles fitment with the organizations cultural profile, so as to support job and career decisions.

The platform can be used by some one to generate their personality profile  for self development,  for identifying their best fit employers or for determining the way they should operate in the present job to enhance their productivity etc..

I had a run through their personality tool, and I tried to identify my best fit employers. In simple words, I am impressed.  After completing  a simple questionnaire, I find that the personal profile created by their tool is rather impressive and relevant. I have not dug beneath the surface however.

Since, the product has just kicked off and stepped into beta launch, it seems that their employer – job seeker match making capability will better itself once the system has more data on employers. Though I have not tried their peer fitment and team dynamics report, it seems that they would also leverage the same psychometric tool / personality tool and may be as relevant as their personal profile – Personal Canvas Report.

While I am impressed with the personality assessment tool, I have my reservations on the – best job seeker – employer fit recommendation engine concept.  The idea about matching job seekers personality and an employers cultural profile is a good one, however it’s a transaction that involves lots of variables that rest on a multitude of data points, most of which are highly ambiguous and situational. Also, organizational culture should not be the online criteria that supports or guides your decision making while deciding on an employer.

For the time being, we can recommend the Good.co, to any one who is interested in having a free of cost personality profile report for themselves.
