Most of the time we end up conducting job interviews, just for the sake of “doing it”. We are sure, that if we get a feel of a capable candidate , we can easily identify him or her based on our experience and expert judgement. Now, we are told to plan our interviews well and use a structured method for interviewing and at the actual moment, all those gyan slips out of our head and we end up doing, what we normally do. So here are some tips, that allows you, your way of interviewing of course with some preparation.

1. Review the Candidate Resume  at least once – This helps you identify, the need to investigate any specific area or experience, and helps you plan your questions once you are done with casual introduction and prelim chat. This also helps, you identify any possibility of fake experience or identify any exaggeration bit. Remember, smart candidates who are good at talking may also be great at faking their credentials. Don’t get impressed by the talk, try to look for substance.

2. Be sure of the position for which you are interviewing – Unless you are in a research mode, you need to be sure of the position and should have clarity on the requisites of the position, expectations from the candidate. This helps you stay focussed and helps you map the applicant vis-a-vis the position in question. To be sure of the position, it helps if you have a final approved job description or have prepared some document that gives you a fair picture of the position.

3. Budget the required time for the interview & plan your schedule accordingly – This helps avoid any un necessary waiting and delays. If you end up delaying the interview because of your pre scheduled commitments, you may also want to rush through and the whole session may end up just being a formality. In such cases, please remember that the entire episode may really have some kind of negative impact on your businesses employer brand.

That’s it for now, we feel that the above mentioned three is simple to follow and can help you be better at interviewing.
