E-commerce giant, Amazon has announced the launch of Distance Assistant solution, to monitor manufacturing staff and machines in India. The Distance Assistant solution will be deployed across its operational sites in the country, to remind the workers, through visual cues and sensors, to maintain social distancing in real-time.
Dr Karuna Shankar Pande, Director-Fulfilment Centres and Safety, Amazon India, said – “Distance Assistant will continue to enhance our safety practices and also empower our efforts to implement additional measures to improve social distancing.”
The standalone unit uses machine learning (ML) models to differentiate people from their surroundings and has already been disposed at sites in the US and other countries.
The company said in a statement that the algorithm is coupled with depth sensors and creates a distance measurement between associates giving them proximity indicators on the monitor.
The Distance Assistant Solution will be deployed across Amazon India’s Fulfillment Centres, Sort Centres and Delivery Stations at entrances and high-traffic areas, the statement added.
Launched by Amazon, the solution will detect whether or not staff are complying with social distancing and will remind workers to maintain proper distance from those around them.
