Patanjali to foray into E-commerce space with its new online marketplace ‘OrderMe’

The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi recently announced the ambitious plan to make India “Atmanirbhar” or self-reliant to boost the economy and support the Indian industries. Taking cue from the Prime Minister, Yoga guru Baba Ramdev-backed Patanjali Ayurved is gearing up for the launch of its own e-commerce platform “OrderMe.”

The platform will be limited only to “swadeshi” items and is expected to go live within next 15 days. According to an ET report, the platform will offer more than 800 products from Patanjali and connect consumers to neighbourhood stores selling Indian products.

While the products will be delivered by the company free of cost within a few hours, users will also be offered 24X7 free medical advice from around 1,500 doctors of Patanjali and yoga tutorials, added the report.

The platform and its mobile application has been developed by the information technology company Bharuwa Solutions. The New Delhi-based IT company is a subsidiary of Patanjali. The mobile application will be made available on Android and IOS platforms.

“Micro, small and medium enterprises supplying domestic products will be encouraged to join the platform and benefit from it” Patanjali Ayurved Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Acharya Balkrishna was quoted as saying in the report.

This is not the first time the Baba Ramdev-led company is foraying into ambitious projects. Two years ago, Patanjali launched its own branded apparel space with its “swadeshi” clothing line. It had partnered with other e-commerce companies at that time including Amazon and Flipkart.

The Haridwar-based company manufactures more than 2,500 products including 45 types of cosmetic products and 30 types of food products.
