Indian software major, Wipro recently announced that it has suspended employee travel to coronavirus-hit China, Hong Kong, and Macau.
The Bengaluru-based company on Wednesday told news agency IANS in a statement that, “Wipro has suspended travel to and transit through mainland China, including Hong Kong and Macau, until further notice. Employees have also been advised to avoid non-critical travel to Singapore, South Korea, Japan, and Italy,”
The company also said that any employee who traveled to any of the affected areas in China in the past few days have been advised to work from home for about 14 days before joining the office.
Asking employees to stay cautious, Wipro said, “We have advised our employees to be vigilant, especially those based in China and those who have visited the country recently.”
Although Wipro has no employees in the Wuhan City of China, the epicenter of the novel virus, it has enabled a significant number of employees based in China to work from home. The company has also requested employees to self-isolate themselves in case they or their family members show any symptoms of the virus.
“That apart, we have taken all necessary measures at our offices there (China), including thermal screening, surgical masks and frequent sanitization of premises,” said the company.
In a separate advisory, the company has asked employees to take preventive measures and gave detail on hygiene. It has also asked all employees across the globe to immediately reach a health center in case of Coronavirus symptoms.
Wipro added, “We are monitoring the situation and have no further comments at this point in time.”
