Edelman Global Advisory acquires Distrito

Edelman Global Advisory (EGA), a specialist agency providing business and government advisory services, announced that it has acquired Distrito Government Relations, expanding its advisory services in Latin America. Distrito, headquartered in Brasilia, brings an innovative approach to government relations with a diverse team of professionals.

EGA is part of Daniel J. Edelman Holdings, which, in Brazil, also owns the communication agencies Edelman and Zeno. The acquisition expands Edelman Global Advisory’s operations to Brasília, adding to São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, the statement said.

EGA Distrito combines EGA’s global platform and consulting expertise in government affairs with Distrito’s network of relationships in Latin America and its knowledge of local laws. The deal will strengthen public affairs capabilities in the region, but also give existing Distrito clients access to the EGA’s worldwide network of experts. The acquisition will position EGA as one of the leading government relations consultancies in Latin America, ensuring that the agency has the necessary resources to support its clients in the demands of the dynamic geopolitical environment in Brazil and throughout Latin America, according to the statement.

“With this strategic step, EGA is increasing its presence in Latin America, one of our fastest growing markets, to offer our clients a broader range of services as well as insights into the dynamic political, economic and social landscape in the region . “, says Leigh Wedell , EGA’s Chief Operating Officer. “Launched in 2021, EGA provides bespoke business and government advisory services to its clients around the world, and this acquisition is in line with our goal of providing a strategic global vision combined with the ability to understand local markets to ensure the success of our clients.”

“After more than 25 years guiding clients through Latin America’s political and regulatory challenges, we continue to strengthen our public affairs services with the acquisition of Distrito. We see this as an opportunity to better advise and support our clients with the expertise and agility of they need”, says Mariana Sanz , CEO of Edelman Latin America.

“Adding Distrito’s expertise to our team further strengthens and expands our integrated offer of services to Brazilian and global companies. There is a growing demand for integration between public relations, public affairs and government relations”, says Ana Julião, general manager of Edelman Brazil .

Distrito’s integration into Edelman Latin America will be led by Leigh Wedell , COO of EGA, and Mariana Sanz , CEO of Edelman Latin America, along with Distrito co-founders Públio Madruga and Danilo Gennari .

Madruga, an experienced lawyer specializing in government relations who has previously served as manager of Government Affairs and head of the parliamentary cabinet, will be the new president of the EGA for Latin America. Gennari will bring his 20 years of experience in the public and private sectors, including positions as Special Secretary for Parliamentary Affairs to the Presidency of the Republic and Special Advisor to the Minister of Finance, to serve as President of the EGA in Brazil.

“We are very confident that this partnership with EGA will improve our work with customers, providing them with even more success and expanding our services outside Brazil”, says Públio Madruga. “Our deep understanding of the Brazilian government’s agenda will now be translated into broader regional and global knowledge for our clients and our team,” adds Danilo Gennari .
