HR startup Oyster closes $20 mn Series A round led by Emergence Capital

Oyster, the HR platform for companies with globally dispersed workforces, announced it has raised $20 million in Series A investment round led by Emergence Capital.

The startup will use the investment to help the company enable even more people to work from anywhere, the statement said.

Earlier, the startup raised $4.2 million in seed round. Oyster enables companies to manage geographically dispersed workforces in over 100 countries.

Well-known SaaS investor Jason Green , who has led funding for Zoom, Salesforce, Bill.com and others, is the main investor. Other investors are the Slack Fund and Connect Ventures.

“We’re investing in people who are fundamentally changing the world of work,” said Emergence founder Jason Green . “Remote work is now a reality and that won’t change. Oyster hires and onboard the best remote talent the world easily, quickly and efficiently. Oyster has the best team and excellent product to dominate this emerging category that shapes the future of work and we look forward to working with them. “

Tony Jamous , CEO of Oyster , said, “The trend of being able to work remotely from anywhere is a positive development for the world, even if 2020 was otherwise bleak. With our mission, we have focused on a rapidly growing area, and that is paying off. We were fortunate to be able to raise our seed and Series A funding remotely during the pandemic. “

Jason Spinell , Director of the Slack Fund, said, “At Slack Fund, we specialize in investing in the next generation of software companies, those who are shaping the future of work. Oyster addresses the challenges of employing a globally dispersed team and enables companies to expand their potential talent pool. This allows them to hire employees based on what matters most to them. The ability to hire workers from anywhere is necessary to enable a remote-first future. ”

Conner Forrest , senior research analyst at 451 Research, part of S&P Global Marketing Intelligence, added, “Companies are starting to think more strategically about hiring international talent, but they need the basic skills to do international hiring first. Work guidelines for long-term and permanent remote work are increasing and companies are considering eliminating physical office space altogether due to COVID-19. Therefore, there is a great need for tools that support mass migration to remote work.”

Founded in 2019 by Tony Jamous and Jack Mardack, Oyster is itself a fully remote company with a diverse team spread across the world.
