Scribd, the unlimited reading subscription service that offers access to ebooks, audiobooks, magazines and documents, announced that it has acquired presentation-sharing platform SlideShare.
“We’re proud to welcome SlideShare to the Scribd family. Our mission is to change the way the world reads, and we’re accomplishing this by providing readers with unparalleled access to the world’s best content,” the company said in its press statement.
Today, Scribd’s premium subscription service offers over 1,000,000 professionally published ebooks, audiobooks, podcasts, sheet music, and magazines, alongside over 100 million documents uploaded from its community. These documents include information and educational resources like study guides, business templates, academic papers, public court filings, and more.
“Now, with the acquisition of SlideShare, we’re excited to add over 40 million presentations to the Scribd reading ecosystem,” it added.
“Our acquisition of SlideShare is a major step towards creating the world’s largest digital library,” said Trip Adler, co-founder and CEO of Scribd. “Scribd has accumulated a unique collection of user-generated and professional content that we make available to our readers via personalized recommendations, and the addition of presentations from the SlideShare community advances our vision. It allows us to continue diversifying our offering while driving even more readers to the books, audiobooks, magazines, and other professionally published works in our digital library.”
Post acquisition, Slideshare and its archive of content will officially become part of the Scribd family. Existing SlideShare presentations and activity will remain on SlideShare.net and on the SlideShare mobile app.
