Amid layoffs, Myntra hires 5,000 employees for its ‘End of Reason Sale’

Amidst an unemployment crisis across the nation, online fashion store Myntra announced that it has hired about 5,000 employees for its supply chain and customer care department. The recent hiring at the ecommerce company is done to support its 12th edition of “End of Reason Sale”.

It is also worth noting that this will be the first time when most of the company’s employees will work remotely during the sale. The entire EORS event will be managed by employees digitally connecting with each other through video conferencing. Myntra is expecting a huge inflow of about 30lakh customers on its platform during the sale.

Myntra CEO Amar Nagaram said categories like fashion essentials, women’s ethnic wear, kidswear, active and sportswear, and beauty and personal care have seen strong growth in the ‘Unlock 1.0’ phase, and are also expected to drive sales during EORS.

“Our teams are geared to handle 20,000 orders per minute during peak, and over 7.5lakh concurrent users at peak…we are expecting 3mn people to shop during the 12th edition of the EORS,” Nagaram said. Also, 15,000 kirana partners will cater to 75 percent of the overall deliveries spanning about 300 cities, the CEO added.

Over 3,500 Indian handloom products from more than 400 brands are being offered on the platforma, giving impetus to SMEs, Nagaram said.

Addressing the excessive workload on employees during the event, the fashion retailer has also introduced “recharge leave”, that is two days off for all employees after wrapping up the sale.

“We understand that these are challenging times for those who are coming for work at the fulfilment centres and even those who are working from home. This is a first-of-its-kind leave to ensure employees rejuvenate themselves,” said Nagaram.

CEO of Myntra Amar Nagaram also said that as the government lifted restrictions in Unlock 1, categories such as fashion essentials, women’s ethnic wear, kidswear, active and sportswear, and beauty and personal care and these were also expected to boom during the online sale.

In the previous edition of the sale, Myntra had seen 2.85 million customers placing 4.2 million orders for 9.6 million items.
