CEO Ronojoy Dutta of IndiGo has announced the removal of leave without pay for staff across all departments. The announcement will be effective from January 1, 2021.
The same day government also allowed airlines to utilise 80 per cent of their pre-Covid capacity seeing to the increasing number of passengers. Domestic air traffic recorded a month-on-month growth of 33 per cent in November.
Ronojoy Dutta said in an email sent to employees – “At this point of time, it looks like we are on a path to a graduated and measured recovery, and we are hopeful that the government will allow us to fly 100 percent of our domestic capacity by early next year.”
Earlier in November, the carrier has already lowered the leave without pay for employees, from 10 days a month to three days a month.
The COVID-19 health-crisis has severely affected the aviation industry leading to job loss in the industry. IndiGo has also laid off 10 percent of its employees previously in response to the pandemic.
IndiGo is a low-cost carrier, with a fleet of 262 aircraft as of 31st March 2020. According to a statement, the airline offered 1,674 peak daily flights during the quarter and connected 62 domestic destinations and 24 international destinations.
