It’s raining jobs in IITs this year with students receiving placement offers from across the globe. Over 4000 job offers have been made so far with core engineering profiles receiving maximum number of placements. The core sector includes companies that work on main engineering disciplines such as mechanical, civil, computer science. Apart from that, job profiles such as artificial intelligence and machine learning became the apple of employer’s eyes this season.
Older IITs have received between 350 to 500 job offers each in the first two days of the placement, while IIT-Madras alone saw a rise in the number of pre-placement offers (PPOs) as compared to the last academic year.
IIT Hyderabad
IIT Hyderabad started its placement season on a positive note this year with 477 students having registered for placements across different departments this year. For the Phase I of placements, a total of 224 companies have registered, compared to about 150 companies in the phase 1 of last year (2018-19).
Companies that jumped into the fray for the first time were BookMyShow, Sprinkler, Jaguar, Bajaj Auto, BnY Mellon, Domino Data Labs and Cogopor. Traditional recruiters such as Microsoft, Goldman Sachs, Salesforce, Intel, Qualcomm, Oracle became part of the recruitment drive this year as well.
The Institute also received six international offers from companies like TSMC, SMS DataTech and NTT-AT. Microsoft made a record number of 17 offers with 5 women achieving significant jobs. Similarly out of 3 offers from Goldman Sachs two were secured by girl students.
IIT Guwahati
Placements at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati are going strong for 2019-20 with a total of number 302 offers made so far. Major chunk of job offers came from companies like Microsoft (19), Uber, Goldman Sachs (9), JPMC (9), IBM, Nutanix, American Express, Quadeye, Oracle (14), Bajaj, Google, etc.
Also, a total of 20 international offers came from companies like Microsoft, Uber, Accenture Japan, SOU Japan and BNY Mellon USA.
IIT Kanpur
The annual placement drive at IIT-Kanpur is flagged off with a good start this year as over 50% of students registered with the placement cell landed jobs in just three days.
In the first two days, on December 1 and 2, over 445 students got job offers and were placed with top mMNCs. On the third day, over 30 companies participated in the placement drive. As per the chairman of placement office as many as 900 job offers were extended to students in Phase-I by about 238 companies.
Also, this year the dual-degree holders have performed better in placements as they cornered about 97% of the total job offers compared to 83% of simple graduates in different streams.
IIT Kharagpur
IIT Kharagpur (KGP) received more than 1000 job offers in a record five days. A total of 144 companies visited IIT KGP between December 1 and 5, with the fifth day ending getting more than 1,000 offers, including over 280 pre-placement offers (PPOs) and 19 from public sector units (PSUs).
Some of the top recruiters at IIT KPG include Honeywell, which made 36 offers followed by Exel with 25. Software giant Microsoft and financial services major Barclays offered 24 and 20 offers, respectively. With these companies visiting the campus to date, the average presence of companies per day stood at 28. International offers also witnessed a significant jump at IIT KGP this year. Students bagged 41 international offers mainly from Japanese companies, as against 26 in the past years.
IIT Roorkee
This year, the placements at IIT Roorkee were conducted in different phases. Companies which participated in placements include Caterpillar, Citi Bank, Cisco, Eaton, Fractal Analytics, GE, Headout, Math Works, Mercari, Oxane Partners, OYO Rooms, Paytm, Razorpay, Roposo, Sapient, Tesco, Udaan, and ZS Associates.
Microsoft gave the highest number of offers at the IIT Roorkee placements with 31 offers including three international offers, and nine PPOs. While the total number of jobs offered stood at 503, last year it stood at 419. Citicorp Services India Pvt. Ltd. became one of the major recruiters with eight job offers and six PPOs.
There are 23 IITs in the country and many institutes have successfully concluded their placement process. So, here’s a brief look at some of the placement stats of a few of them: IIT Varanasi 2019 batch marked history as the highest package stood at 1.04 cr, whereas the average package ranges between 8-9 LPA. About 762 students were placed in top-notch companies out of 1063 registered students in BTech. IIT Dhanbad had a great placement year as the major companies such as Microsoft, Wipro, Walmart, Google, Visa, Amazon, Maruti Suzuki, ONGC, Tata Steel became top recruiters. IIT-Ropar’s 2019 batch is the 9th BTech batch to pass out. The average package ranged between 11-12 lacs. 73 students were placed in top-notch companies out of 83 registered students in BTech. On the other hand, IIT Gandhinagar concluded its placement programme in which about 169 students registered for the placement drive and 112 were successfully placed; a 20% rise compared to 92 in 2017. 2 BTech students were offered 40 LPA by a Germany-based company, the highest ever at the institute.
