Retail giant Walmart’s tech arm Walmart Labs is reportedly planning to hire about 2,800 employees in India this year.
According to a report by the Times Of India, the company will hire around 800 employees for operations in Chennai and another 2000 employees will be hired for joining the Bengaluru center.
In Chennai, where it leased a 250,000sqft facility from RMZ earlier this year, it has openings for data engineers who will be part of Walmart’s global data organization (GDO), which is building machine learning, data science, and visualization platforms, said the report.
The Chennai center will also develop analytical products for verticals like marketing, finance, supply chain, pricing, customer, and HR.
Lately, there has been a tough competition between two of the biggest retail companies in the world, Amazon, and Walmart. Both the companies have stepped up their hiring game amid the pandemic owing to the increase in demands. Other than hiring, the companies are even rapidly strengthening their tech arms.
Earlier in March, Walmart announced that the company is planning to hire more than 150,000 hourly workers in the United States, given the rise in the number of shoppers due to the coronavirus pandemic. Amazon made a similar move announcing it would hire 100,000 warehouse and delivery workers in the United States as the virus outbreak boosts online orders.
