Some time back, I came across a question on a LinkedIn group.
“Managing change” OR “Leading change”..what is the most important one? why ?
My thoughts on the same:
Managing change or leading change – both are important, interlinked and dependent on each other. We really can’t, and possibly shouldn’t compare which one is more important.
Leading change may refer to the entire cycle starting from initiating the change initiative, and driving the execution of change initiative to its proposed outcomes. Managing change, is to be able to effectively handle and address the situations and complexities that emerge during the change period.
All this also depends on how you define “leading change” and “managing change”, in a specific organizational context.
