Work-from-home, remote working or telecommuting, whatever you may call it, but handling all your work-related tasks from the comfort of your couch is now becoming a normal thing and you won’t be judged for that. Due to the novel coronavirus pandemic, work-from-home is now the talk of the town.
The coronavirus outbreak, which first originated in China, has now led to the world’s largest work-from-home experiments. Companies and organizations are forced to shut their campuses and ask employees to contribute to work remotely to prevent the transmission of the virus among employees.
Working from home has many advantages, both for employees and employers. Remote working can be cost-effective also for the parties. But in these times of lockdown, work from home has become stressful. In such a time when the entire family is under one roof, distraction is the biggest hurdle in remote working, be it from children or be it from the fast-spreading rumors.
While remote working sounds like a homebody’s dream, it’s not always easy to set your own schedule. Overcoming frequent distractions proves to be difficult when you are surrounded by temptations like watching the television or listening to music because there will be no one to supervise what you are doing. So, let’s look at a few tips to stay focused and avoid distractions while working from home.
1.) Have a dedicated work space
To stay focussed while remotely working, it’s very important to get some feeling of it. To help you achieve that feeling, it’s very important to have a dedicated workspace. It doesn’t necessarily be a study with books and complete office setup, a simple chair and table would do the work for you. Even urban dwellers with limited square footage should carve out a spot that’s just for work.
2.) Follow your office schedule
Working from the comfort of your home can be really great, but it’s important to have a schedule that resembles your office. While working from the office, we don’t use our mobile phones much and stick to our target deadlines, but at home, where you don’t have anybody to supervise, it’s easier to get sucked in the social media void. To avoid that it’s very important to stick by your office routine. Take breaks only when you’re allowed to while in your office. Grab your lunch only during lunch hours. However, you may have frequent meals to fulfill your appetite.
3.) Get dressed up
We all like pajamas, the comfort they provide and the relaxing feel to it. But actually those pajamas are a trap to make you lazy and less productive. It is very important for one to actually feel like working. While there’s no need for a three-piece suit or a pencil skirt and heels when you’re not leaving your home, there’s a happy medium for getting dressed in the morning. It’s all a part of having a business mindset and daily ritual. After all, we are creatures of habit, and it’s vital to have good habits. Also, take into consideration those long con-calls with your peers and boss. Remember, making an impression, goes a long way.
