Music “culture” at workplaces can help employees stay productive and engaged

#guestpost

Establishing meaningful human contact is critical to the mental well-being of employees of the future, where the office is the home and the home is the office – and music plays a critical role in this. Unlike high production requirements in theater and other visual arts, music is one of the most portable mediums of the available performance arts.

In the new social order, where isolation – sometimes by choice and other times by social necessity – is the world’s new way of defining the way we work. In our new world, we’re re-learning what it means to be stimulated, to be productively engaged, to be satisfied, and to be happy, all from the sanctuary of our own homes.Music has always been some thing that enabled people – stay focused, stay creative and bond with others. Here are some thoughts on how music adds value to workplaces and employee productivity.

Employee wellbeing & engagement

An engaged employee is one who knows how to find happiness in work and is able to deliver as per business expectations. Employers can encourage music as a hobby ! Let your team and employees explore and enjoy the therapeutic value of music. Music is calming and it also adds to one’s creativity. Also, feeling a sense of achievement outside of work can be rewarding in boosting one’s morale.

Music helps one be mentally active and adds to overall health and happiness

From a professional standpoint, new research from the University of Montreal shows that musicians tend to be more mentally alert. Simply playing an instrument can have long term effects on reaction time and other age-related declines like hearing or concentration. “Music probably does something unique,” explains neuropsychologist Catherine Loveday of the University of Westminster. “It stimulates the brain in a very powerful way because of our emotional connection with it.”

Team bonding at workplace and beyond

Something common your employees can participate in together is an honest approach to letting the steam off, while also forging critical collaborative bonds for a workplace. Be it sports events, music jam sessions or even parties – it’s always fun to share achievements and get to know other employees on a personal level. Learning and sharing your music interests and achievements can be one such activity, and a fun workplace is always a productive one.

While creating Creative Xchange our goal was to enable musicians to do what they do best: perform, teach and create music. Looking at user behavior, and while interacting with musicians, hobbyists who learn music on our platform we could clearly see the potential of engaging with music for corporate professionals and workplaces. Based on this we also integrated the possibilities supporting professionals engage with music using our platform to shape the music culture in one’s corporate or personal/recreational needs.
