Vedanta’s Srinivasan Venkatakrishnan to step down from CEO and Director position

Vedanta Limited, a subsidiary of Vedanta Resources Limited, has recently announced that company CEO and Director Srinivasan Venkatakrishnan will step down from his position.

Srinivasan has decided to resign from the position citing personal reasons and is expected to rejoin his family in South Africa.

According to an official press release, the company said, “Srinivasan Venkatakrishnan will be stepping down as CEO and Director of the Company with effect from 5th April 2020, for personal reasons and will rejoin his family in South Africa.”

Thanking Srinivasan for his contribution, Vedanta Chairman Navin Agarwal said, “We would like to acknowledge and express our deep appreciation and thank Venkat for his immense contribution to the company. Apart from his relentless focus to drive the company, he has been at the forefront in leading the sustainability practices within the group which has set an industry benchmark. We wish him the very best.”

Srinivasan was appointed as the Chief Executive of the company in August 2018. He succeeded the interim CEO Kuldip Kaura, who was handed over the charge after Tom Albanese left the company post the commencement of his tenure.

Before joining Vedanta, Venkatakrishnan, or Venkat as he is known, was the CEO of Johannesburg-based AngloGold Ashanti Ltd, the world’s largest emerging market gold producer.

Venkat is a qualified Chartered Accountant who holds a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Madras.
