Telegram has received $1 billion investment via bond sales made to multiple investors, as informed by the founder of the the messaging app – Pavel Durov.
The financing round involved a combination of investment worth $150 million by Abu Dhabi Catalyst Partners, owned partly by the Abu Dhabi state fund and Mubadala Investment Co.
“The funds would be used to help roll out expansion plans as well as drive its monetization strategy, which includes premium plans for business users,” said Durov.
“Telegram’s user base has reached a critical mass that places it amongst global tech giants,” executive from Mubadala – Faris Sohail Faris al-Mazrui commented in a statement.
